The Three Stooges – The Tragic Comedy of the Horowitz Brothers
Nyuk nyuk. Curly and Moe. The Horowitz brothers (renamed “Howard” for the Hollywood set, which despite being populated by many Jews was actually exceedingly anti-Semitic) were often joined by their fourth brother, Shemp. Add into it Larry Fine (born Feinberg), and you have The Three Stooges.
It all began in 1925 with a Vaudeville act called Ted Healy and His Stooges. In the act, straight man Healy would attempt to do his jokes and routines, but his bothersome “assistants” would keep interrupting him.
