I really want to direct a show next semester, but I just can’t seem to find any good ones out there. I’d definitely like to do a comedy that’s between 1 and a half and 2 hours long. I’d like a cast between 8-25 people with a set that’s not too complicated. It’s geared toward a college-aged to adult audience. Any suggestions for a show?

Booking a comedian would mean to tediously hunt for the right performer that could fit your company’s event. However if you are seriously looking to make an impact with your staff, you might like to provide some thought to hiring a corporate comedian. Why would you wish to hire a comedian for your event? Through the years, these specially coached innovative entertainers have come up with a wide range of great techniques to serve up the laughs while encouraging and inspiring your team in ways that you may have never thought possible.

How can a comedy booking agency help you with your event planning? These companies will guarantee you that the greatest form of entertainment you want to have for your occasion will be provided without you feeling harassed with trying to fit every step of the process within your schedule. There is no need for you to seek out comedians in yellow pages and in the net, speak to each of them, research about each comedian within your list, picking out from all of them, etc. With the help of a comedy booking company, you will only have to tell the facts and any pertinent information regarding your event, and what you need to have as your entertainers, or one that is known to perform various acts besides cracking jokes.

Basically, an agent from the company should know what you would like and it will be their responsibility to look, and you in return, should listen to their suggestions and ideas. That relationship is the key to making sure that you get a performer who will keep your crowd involved, having a laugh and enjoying the entire time. The most famous corporate entertainers book up very quickly for preferred dates. During the corporate holiday celebration season (Nov-Jan), entertainers can start to book up over a year beforehand. Prevent dissatisfaction and begin seeking entertainment as soon as you know the date of the corporate event.

Whenever you go to an affair, let us say, business meetings, conventions, seminars, as well as religious functions, do you notice everything getting so serious and you want to have that kind of entertainment that will break the ice but go with the flow of the event? Or, are you one of several people designated to prepare such events? Have you thought about allowing your crowd and participants experience the event with fun and enjoyment? If yes, then looking for services of a comedy booking agency is definitely a good option.

Booking a comedian can be a job not everybody can handle; make sure you solicit assistance from a booking agency to ensure the success of the event. The most effective corporate comedians don’t just stand up and make jokes; they have worked for a long time to figure out ways to include important themes and messages into their routines that can enhance your team’s morale, creativity and productivity. Long story short, if you want someone to teach, impress and entertain your team at your next big event, look into getting a professional corporate comedian.

One of the training tools we used in my training to become a master coach was improv comedy. The word “improv” incites sheer panic for a control freak like myself. Standing up in front of these people, whose approval I cared way too much about, trying to be funny on the spot? No preparation, no thinking about it, no research, no planning. Just Being. Natural. Yeah, right.

It turns out that not only is improv comedy an incredible tool for honing your coaching skills, it’s full of useful metaphors for life. Who knew?

There are three rules in improv comedy. The first rule is to Affirm and Add.

That means, when someone says, “Look, a bear!” you Affirm: “Yes!” and Add: “And it’s reading the Old Testament while sitting on the toilet!” No negating: “That’s not a bear, it’s my wife!” Or even, “A bear? Where?” which is just a weaker form of negating. The rule is to affirm like it’s the best idea you’ve ever heard, and then expand on it.

Sound easy? It’s not. I didn’t even think twice about this rule until I got into my scene (in which I was one of 3 amnesiacs at an airport) and found myself naturally wanting to negate everything. What’s so hard about just accepting what someone throws out? What’s with this very natural tendency-I’d even go as far as calling it a default automatic response-to fight against what we’re given?

I think it’s a little different for everyone. In improv and in life, some people fight against What Is because they had another idea in mind and they’re resistant to changing their plan. Some people fight against What Is because they go blank in the moment and they’re more used to saying No in life than saying Yes. Some people want to control the scene. Again, in a cheesy improv exercise, and in life.

How you do anything is how you do everything.

Doesn’t matter what your specific flavor of negating is all about. This was a powerful illustration that illuminated our tendencies to negate and fight against and argue and resist, when we know damn well that the Enlightened path is to accept, accept, accept, accept.

When we accept exactly where we are and expand from there, we are light years ahead of where we are when we resist and try to change. Think Yes AND, not No BUT.

You lost your job. Yes, AND I’m going to find a new one. How much is that than No! But I will starve to death and end up homeless if I don’t have that job.

You’re recognizing painful patterns that have held you back in life. Yes, AND that is wonderful because now I’m aware. Better than, No! But if I didn’t have these damn patterns I’d be happy and successful by now.

Yes, AND.

Affirm and Add. Accept and Expand from there. Resistance is futile and always takes you back a step. Real change comes from the place of acceptance.

By the way, the second and third rules of improv comedy are Have a plan and Change your plan.

Three excellent rules for life: Affirm and add, have a plan, be willing to change your plan.

I want a really good comedy to start watching that has already been established as good. Don’t like crude humor shows like family guy or south park. I’ve already seen How I Met Your Mother, Scrubs, The Office, 30 Rock, and Weeds. I’ve already seen most the classics (ended more than 5 years ago) so don’t suggest those.

I’m looking into directing a play next year for my senior year in high school. I need a play with a small cast size (15-20 people) and a simple set design. A comedy would be good but any other play would be appreciated. Oh, also keep in mind that the majority of the actors will be women.

I believe south park would be the best cartoons in relaying messages of the american public comedy with hidden messages in them, would you agree?
i agree that south park is over family guy, family guy is just stupid most of the time as is explored i a couple south park episodes.
i agree that simpsons changed the american culture more but there last like 8 seasons have been absolute crap barring a couple episodes while south park is as good as ever.

I have been assigned an informative speech in which I must cover how comedy has changed in the past 40 years. If you know a lot about sitcoms, stand-up, movies, anything, please share. I have done my own research, but I cannot find any leads for research. This is one of those things where its better to have been alive during the time period assigned and I’m only 17.
